Spot intel

Parking

Paid lot at the end of Figueroa Street and free street parking along the promenade and the bike path. Lots fill before first light on a clean swell. Car break-ins are regular along the bike path.

Crowd

Thick. One of the most-surfed stretches in Ventura. Heavy longboard and SUP presence runs generational. The sea breeze starts after 11:00 and tightens the lineup before conditions go off.

Beginner-friendly?

Depends.

Down the line, the wave opens up and the shoulder is approachable on small days. The high-priority cobblestone wall at the top of the point is not a novice wave at any size.

Lineup etiquette

Priority on a point goes to the deepest rider. At a longboard-heavy break, priority extends further back along the shoulder than at a shortboard wave. Paddling inside an active takeoff is the standard call-out.

When it's on

Long-period west-northwest groundswell with light offshore wind from the northeast through east. South-southwest energy in summer wraps the point on the bigger pulses. Mid-tide window.

When beginners can paddle out

Knee-high to waist-high on a clean morning with light wind. Smaller-day shoulder sections sit well wide of the point's high-priority zones.
