Pacific Beach
Sand-bottom beachbreak along the boardwalk in central Pacific Beach, San Diego. Multiple peaks shift with the sandbars. Holds small to mid-sized NW and SW swell.
Spot intel
Parking
Free street parking along Mission Boulevard and the residential blocks above the boardwalk. Metered lot at the foot of Grand Avenue. The 5 and the 8 funnel weekenders straight in; weekend lot turnover is slow.
Crowd
Thick year-round. Tourist and surf-school density runs high on the inside; the locals spread to the outside peaks.
Beginner-friendly?
Yes.
Sand-bottom beachbreak with broad takeoff zones and forgiving wave shape on small days. The catches are crowd density, swimmer traffic on the inside, and rip currents on the larger sandbars.
Lineup etiquette
Beachbreak priority is per-wave, not by lineup position. A wave already taken from the peak isn't open to paddle into.
When it's on
Northwest or west groundswell with a working south swell. Light offshore wind from the east. Mid-tide window.
When beginners can paddle out
Knee-high to shoulder-high on any tide with light wind. First light runs glassiest and least crowded.
