Solana Beach
Sand-bottom beachbreak along the bluff stretch between Cardiff and Del Mar in North San Diego County. Multiple peaks across a wide cove. Bluff-stair beach access.
Spot intel
Parking
Small free lot at Fletcher Cove off Plaza Street, about 30 spaces. Free street parking on the residential blocks above the bluff. Stair access down to the sand.
Crowd
Moderate, denser around Fletcher Cove access. Family and longboard mix on the inside, shortboarders spread to the outside peaks.
Beginner-friendly?
Yes.
Soft sand-bottom beachbreak with multiple peaks and broad takeoff zones. The catches are along-shore current and the stair carry back up the bluff, not the wave.
Lineup etiquette
Beachbreak priority is per-wave, not by lineup position. A wave already taken from the peak isn't open to paddle into.
When it's on
Northwest or west groundswell with a working south swell. Light offshore wind from the east. Mid-tide window.
When beginners can paddle out
Waist-high to shoulder-high on any tide with light wind. First light runs glassiest before the sea breeze fills in.
